Australian Summer Business Reception in Chengdu – 23 June 2022

 

On the evening of 23 June 2022, the Australian Consulate General in Chengdu hosted the 2022 Summer Business Reception. Ms Adelle Neary, Consul General of Australia in Chengdu, Mr Zhang Yechu, Deputy Director of Sichuan Foreign Affairs Office, Ms Wu Zhijuan, Deputy Director of Chengdu Foreign Affairs Office, and about 100 guests from various industries attended the reception.

“In 2021, Australia was Sichuan’s tenth largest trading partner, with bilateral trade volume reaching 2.68 billion Australian dollars” the Consul General said. “Despite the challenges of COVID, we continue to have strong people-to-people and cultural ties between Australia and Southwest China. This is the second consecutive year that the Australian Consulate-General in Chengdu has hosted a business reception to gather with important partners and extend our thanks for their contributions to Australia and Southwest China relations. We will continue to maintain economic cooperation and friendly exchanges, and work together to promote the existing ties between Australia and Southwest China.”

Mr Zhang Yechu, Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Sichuan Province, said that 2022 marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Australia. Over the past half century, China-Australia cooperation in various fields had made great progress.  Mr Yechu invited Australian companies and friends to seize opportunities and strengthen cooperation with Sichuan.

Mr Rhett Miller, Austrade Commissioner for Trade and Investment, said that in the second half of 2022, to continue to support Australian companies and Chinese investors, Austrade would launch a series of activities to promote Australia's high-quality consumer goods, food and beverages, healthcare, international education, technological innovation and other fields.  These activities would be announced on the Austrade WeChat official account.

Finally, Mr Richard Beach, Chairman of the Australian Chamber of Commerce, talked about how the Chamber of Commerce supported and helped Australian and local enterprises to meet challenges, grow and develop through community, publicity and promotion.
