“Home in Chengdu – Let’s Play Sports”

On 15 September, the Australian Consulate-General and the Chengdu Foreign Affairs Office co-hosted a family fun sports day for the international community in Chengdu.

The event, coinciding with the start of the Mid-Autumn Festival in China, was held at the Dong’an Lake Sports Park, the location for the opening of the University Games due to be held in Chengdu in 2022.

At the opening of the Mid-Autumn Fun Sports Games, the Consul General of Australia, Ms Adelle Neary said: “We have a global reputation for sports and sports management.”

“In coming months, we will host a series of events to showcase Australian sporting excellence – promoting healthy food and healthy lifestyle choices, including exercise, as part of broader people-to-people links and business cooperation between Australia and Chengdu.”

The sports day included badminton and table tennis; a not so traditional dragon boat race and some high tech VR games.  It was a great opportunity to see the facilities for the 2021 University Games, celebrate our shared love of sports and connect with the international community in Chengdu.

Special congratulations to our very own Deputy Consul General Nancy Yang, winner of the women’s badminton, and Consular Officer Joanne Zhao, runner-up in table tennis.
