Perth and Chengdu win the “Sister Cities Australia National Award for 2013 – New Affiliation”
The City of Perth won the Sister Cities Australia National Award in the ‘New Affiliation’ category, for its Sister City agreement with Chengdu, at the 2013 Sister Cities Australia National Conference.
Starting as a Charter of Mutual Friendship in September 2010, the relationship was elevated to a Sister City Agreement in September 2012 due to the high level of activities in official visits, student and educational exchanges, tourism promotion, business migration and two-way investments.
As an important component of the Sister City framework, the joint “Picture Yourself in Perth” (PYP) student photo competition entered its 3rd year in 2014. Each year ten winning students participate in a study tour to Perth on a scholarship. This year’s participants arrived in Perth on 8 February and were warmly welcomed by Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi.
